Being viewed as an authority is a great way to gain brand recognition – and to boost your prestige both as an entrepreneur and as a business.

So what should you do in order to position yourself as an authority in your field?

CEO Blog Nation sat down with 20 entrepreneurs and business leaders and asked them what they thought. Fantastic Services’ CEO and co-founder Rune Sovndahl was one of those consulted.

CEO Blog Nation – or CBNation – is a CEO news, events and tips blog designed to be a resource for entrepreneurs and business owners. It consists of a group of ten different business blogs, so no matter your industry and no matter your existing experience as an entrepreneur, you’ll find something of interest to you here.

One of the ongoing practices of CBNation is to get together with experienced entrepreneurs and ask them for input about the site’s topic of the day. This time, that’s tips on authority positioning.

Tips on Authority Positioning

There was some great advice for entrepreneurs looking to position themselves as an authority in the post, including:

  • Be honest – you can’t lie or over-sell your expertise in a certain field, but you do need to be confident in what you know. There’s a difference between arrogantly expounding on a subject you know nothing about, and showing that your experience in a field means you’re someone who should be listened to.
  • Speak about what you know – lots of the entrepreneurial tips which were given touched on the importance of finding opportunities to speak at conferences or to be published in relevant media when trying to be viewed as an authority on a subject.
